Analysis Of The Vamps Video 'Somebody to You'
The Vamps music video for 'Somebody to You' is mainly a performance video due to the amount of shots in which the band as their instruments and is lip syncing. However, throughout the video their is a slight narrative in which the band hangs out with a group of girls. The location through the video is mainly at a beach but there is other locations such as a tennis court, swimming pool, a part of grass where they play football and an eating area. In contrast, Demi Lovato is located on top of a car but then moves to the beach in later shots.
In the first establishing shot of the video there is a view of the sea with the band name and a featured artist displayed. In addition, there is a digetic sound of the waves crashing against the surface to make the listener feel like they are at the beach. Throughout the video there is a range of shots from close up shots of the band to over shoulder shots. An effective shot which is used is a worms eye shot in which the camera is placed underwater to when the girls jump in the swimming pool. In addition, a point of view shot is used when viewing what one the band members can see. The editing used throughout the video is very simple with quickly cut shots. At one point, they use a fade transition when the song begins to slow down to calm the tempo. In contrast, in these few shots they have a lens flare on some of the girls. This may be used to highlight the beauty and how exotic they are
This music video can be considered a pop video because of the location and bright lighting. However, you can argue against this due to the dark clothing and instruments used in the performance parts.
A great analysis of this music video. In your next analysis try to develop your use of terminology even further and focus on genre (how is this pop?)
